This past month was extremely busy; between freelancing and working on my greeting card (and binge-watching Grey’s Anatomy) I was only able to read 4 books. Last month, I wrote my first collective book review and really enjoyed the reflection. I’m excited to share my critiques this month because it includes a friend’s self-publication and one of my new favorite books.

May is coming to an end this week along with the Make It Happen May challenge. With that in mind, today I’ll be sharing my third and last stage of the design process along with the final outcome of my greeting card! So far, I’ve done plenty of research and gone through many drafts. Now as I finalize my design, it’s also important to acknowledge what I learned along the way and how I can utilize these skills in the future.

Earlier this May I announced my personal Make It Happen May challenge and decided to take you through the entire process. With an unexpected freelance project now on my plate, this challenge has proven to take longer than expected. I already discussed the first stage of design which was doing research and gathering inspiration. Moving forward, it’s necessary to create several drafts of a design before finalizing a project, which proves to be both challenging and time consuming.

As I promised in my latest Make It Happen May post, I will be sharing every step of my greeting card process on the blog in hopes of inspiring and enlightening you. On my portfolio, I share a brief oversight of my design process. I believe that any well designed project can be broken down into three steps, the first being do your research. Though, it’s not as simple as gathering facts for a thesis and involves much more creative insight.

Now that it is May, we are almost half-way through the year of 2015! It’s a great time to reflect on what goals you’ve accomplished and the areas you are still trying to focus on. One of my favorite vloggers, Nikki Phillippi, has created a series on her Youtube channel called “make it happen May.” This series encourages viewers to go after their dreams and offers a community of support. By using the hashtag #makeithappenmay everyone can discuss what they are trying to achieve and motivate one another.
